Send an Albino Child to School
A team of five staff members from our partner organization in Sierra Leone (ARFSL) were in Eastern and Northern Sierra Leone to distribute school kits and food assistance to children with albinism, and food items to widows and orphans with albinism, to help them during the Christmas season in 2019.
School Materials Distribution
October 7th to 9th school materials distribution took place in two districts (Kono and Tonkolili districts). This fund was from the COVID – 19 budget to benefit 300 people.
We were able to give out learning materials and COVID – 19 materials and other food items to about 45 PWA’S. This was in 2020.
Christmas Feeding Program
Christmas Feeding and Gift program is one of our special projects that recalls the memory of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ and to share gifts to the less privileged especially for persons living with Albinism (the widows, orphans, aged, and the rejected) in our country. Kenema district has never received such a benefit before and their numbers have rapidly risen to 40 registered members. This was done in 2020.
Health screenings
Several cases of suspected cancer-related illnesses were identified, giving a total of 13 PWA’s as follows:
- Kenema district has two serious cases as both of them have undergone surgeries twice. One her chest and the other on her face.
- Kono district: has eight students suspected to have cancer if taken lightly.
- Freetown has 3 cases.
Life Skills training
At Sarah’s Voice, we are working on a project that provides life skills and some computer training for women and girls with albinism at a recognized training facility, the May’s Empowerment Centre in Freetown.
