The need, and what you can do

Preventive skin care and low vision assistance.

Albinos in Sierra Leone are in desperate need of care for skin cancer.
and glasses for general vision.
Very limited specialist care available for skin cancer. The usual option is to go to another country for care, but this is very expensive (about $6000)

Without the protective pigment melanin, people with albinism are highly vulnerable to skin cancer. In addition, people with albinism have a complex visual impairment, Albinism does not cause total blindness, but many with the condition are classified as ‘legally blind’.

We urgently need to prevent more deaths from skin cancer.

They also need strong prescription glasses that will give them some vision assistance in school and work, and generally a belter quality of life..

As a start, we want to;
– Get sunscreen into their hands – $5.50 each tube.
– Start buying glasses for them – $60 each pair.

These two measures will help eliminate two barriers that seek to prevent them from being successful at work and studies while improving their quality of life.

According to the 2015 census, there were at that time 501 Albinos in Sierra Leone.

NEEDS

Gifts of $10, $20 $30 or $60, $100, $1000 or more for glasses and sunscreen lotion.

Life skills training.

At Sarah’s Voice, we are working on a project that provides life skills and some computer training for women and girls with albinism at a recognized training facility, the May’s Empowerment Centre in Freetown.

The current number is ten. This will change with each training cycle.

To train these ten women will cost $112 per person for the one-month course.

This is a request for you to consider being a part of sponsoring these women.

Would you prayerfully consider giving a donation of 10, 20 40, 50, or 100 dollars to our organization?

Your support is critical to the success of this project.

These funds are needed as soon as possible to begin alleviating the difficulty that they are in.
Funds donated to this campaign will be used to purchase sunscreen online that will then be delivered to the Albinism Royal Foundation in Sierra Leone (ARFSL), a local NGO recognized and registered by the Government of Sierra Leone. Funds for glasses will be sent to Sierra Leone so that they can be procured from optometrists locally.
This campaign will be updated as items are purchased.
Contact number for ARFSL: +232 99 684 090.

There are many others with this condition who need urgent attention for a Biopsy and an operation. Those who wish to donate for a biopsy can also do so.

We are making an appeal to you to help these people regain their health. Too many have died needlessly and painfully. Help us put a stop to this. Thanks and God bless you!
